Amata Thomas

Director of Operations

Thomas lives in Kisumu with his wife, two sons and two daughters. He serves as the Director of Operations for the work across East Africa. He supervises employees and oversees the quality and progress of the program. Thomas holds a bachelor’s degree from Maseno University and has also studied in the Netherlands. He also serves as a bishop for Christian Believers Fellowship.

Ken lives with his wife and children in Nakuru. He has three sons and two daughters. Ken has a friendly personality and loves meeting and working with people. In addition to coordinating the work in the Nakuru region, he assists at the Propel head office.

Sam Wanjala - Kitale Field Coordinator

Kitale Field Coordinator

Sam is from Kiminini near Kitale, where he lives with his wife and one son. Sam is very busy with his role at Propel, and trains many groups each week. He is a gifted teacher and connects well with his audience.

Henry lives in Kisumu with his wife. He is the field coordinator for the Nyanza region. Henry has a friendly personality and is very intentional in his high quality teaching to savings groups.

Dan lives in Malindi with his wife and four children. He serves as a pastor at his local church. Dan brings enthusiasm and excellence to the Propel team.

Taita-Taveta Field Coordinator

Jacqueline lives with her children in Taveta, near the Tanzania border. She has been working with Propel Training since 2016 based in the Taita-Taveta area. We are grateful for her faithful service and skill.

Verlin Torkelson

Verlin Torkelson

Regional Director

Verlin Torkelson provides oversight and leadership for the Eastern Africa program. He and his family are from Alberta, Canada. They reside in Nakuru where Verlin works from the Head Office. Verlin serves as a link between the program and the Open Hands office in the United States.

Volunteer Facilitators

Currently, we have more than 45 facilitators who form new groups and partner with existing groups. They advise groups on how to form proper policies, how to set up templates for record keeping and how to set up their leadership team. They attend group meetings to deliver lessons, monitor group health and progress and guide the group through challenges.
